SANA'A December 05. 2023 (Saba)- A meeting in Sana'a today, Wednesday, headed by Deputy Minister of Water and Environment Haneen Al-Duraib, discussed procedures for continuing support from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNEPS) to local water and sanitation institutions in the capital secretariat and the provinces.

The meeting, which included the Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNEPS), Engineer Abdel-Wahab Salah, the Project Advisor at UNEPS, Khaldoun Salem, and the Director-General of the Urban Cities Project, Mohammed Al-Shami, reviewed the mechanism for monitoring and evaluating the use of diesel for water and sanitation institutions.

A brief explanation of the team’s work for the second phase was listened to, about evaluating the performance of institutions in the municipality and the provinces and improving their capabilities and work requirements to be funded by UNEPS and international organizations.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Water stressed the keenness for local water institutions to continue providing water and sanitation services to citizens, to alleviate their suffering in light of the circumstances and repercussions of the aggression and siege.

Al-Darib pointed out the need to support local institutions so that they can rely on themselves, appreciating the interest and keenness of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to continue providing water , sanitation services and not raise water tariff prices as a result of the circumstances the country is going through.

While the Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services and Project Advisor confirmed that UNPS is keen to support local water and sanitation institutions for a specific period until the implementation of sustainable projects is completed and the water institutions become self-reliant.
