BAGHDAD September 28. 2023 (Saba) - Iraqi security forces have arrested the owner of the hall in which fire broke out in the al-Hamdaniya district on Tuesday night, causing a tragic accident that claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
Iraqi media quoted the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Security Council in a statement as saying “The Ministry of Interior issued an arrest warrant for a number of people, including the owner of the hall called Samir Suleiman, and after receiving an arrest warrant, our institutions in the Kurdistan Regional Security Council in Erbil issued an arrest warrant.” The owner of the hall was arrested and handed over according to a judicial warrant to the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Government of Iraq.”
A fire broke out in a crowded wedding hall in northern Iraq on Tuesday, killing and injuring hundreds in a Christian town.
The authorities announced the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
According to Iraqi media, firefighters were searching amid the charred rubble of the building in the town of Qaraqosh, the center of al-Hamdaniya district, until Wednesday morning.
