TAIPEI September 14. 2023 (Saba) - Taiwan announced on Thursday that within one day, China sent a total of 68 warplanes and 10 military ships to the airspace and waters surrounding the island.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense said in a statement that “68 aircraft belonging to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and 10 ships belonging to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy were monitored around Taiwan” between Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Taiwan announced on Wednesday that within a few hours, it had spotted 35 Chinese military aircraft around the island, some of them heading to the western Pacific Ocean to join the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong as part of “joint naval and air training.”
The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense confirmed in its statement that China has increased the frequency of its ships and aircraft violating the island’s waters and airspace in recent days.
Beijing has increased its military pressure on the autonomous island, especially through naval maneuvers and air sorties.
China stresses that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory and pledges to regain control over it, by force if necessary.
