KABUL April 30. 2024 (Saba) - An Afghan government spokesman announced on Tuesday that at least six people were killed and another was wounded in an attack carried out by a gunman on a mosque in Herat province, western Afghanistan.
The spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior, Abdul Matin Qani, wrote on the “X” platform: “At approximately 21:00 (16:30 GMT) on Monday night, an unknown gunman opened fire on civilian worshipers in a mosque in Gozara area, west of Herat city.”
He added: "Six civilians were killed and another was injured."
The Afghan government's Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported that the number of deaths in the attack was the same as that which occurred in Herat Province, while no party claimed responsibility for the attack.
The number of bombings and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has decreased significantly since Taliban regained power in August 2021, and relative security has prevailed. However, a number of armed groups such as ISIS still pose a threat.
