SA'ADA May 21. 2024 (Saba) - The Governor of Sa'ada, Muhammad Jaber Awad, discussed with the Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations, Julien Harneis, and the Director of the OCHA Office in Yemen, Markus Werne, the province’s needs for humanitarian projects and what is required to facilitate the return of the displaced to their areas and villages.

In the meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs, Ibrahim Al-Hamli, and the province’s undersecretary for humanitarian affairs, Muhammad Hussein Baydan, Governor Awad stressed the urgent need for urgent intervention in the old city of Sa'ada to restore houses.

Julien, for his part, stressed his keenness to intervene in the restoration of Sa'ada’s old houses to preserve the heritage.

However, he needs to find donors, which requires a year or two of time, stressing the necessity of having a comprehensive plan for the return of the displaced.

In addition, Governor Awad and Al-Hamli, along with Julian Harness, visited the University of Sa'ada, and listened to an explanation from the university’s president, Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Hamran, about the systematic targeting of the university by the aggression against Yemen, which caused the destruction of the university’s infrastructure.

They also viewed the historic city of Sa'ada, and the damage it sustained as a result of the aggression over a period of nine years that destroyed houses directly and indirectly.

They listened to an explanation from the people of the city about the extent of the suffering and the urgent intervention the city needs to save what remains of the ancient historical houses that are at risk of collapsing, as well as the city’s need for a sanitation project.
