WASHINGTON July 09. 2023 (Saba) - A US general said on Sunday that cluster munitions will not help Ukrainian forces overcome the main obstacles they face in their counter-offensive.
Russia Today website quoted retired General Mark Hertling in an interview with Newsweek magazine "The cluster munitions are not capable of clearing minefields and are ineffective in clearing trenches."
Her Tling added "These munitions may be dangerous for the Ukrainian soldiers themselves, who will have to move in the territory where the unexploded ordnance remained."
The United States recently announced that it is in the process of providing Ukraine with internationally banned cluster munitions.
Ukrainian forces used Soviet cluster munitions in the bombing of Donbass, especially the city of Donetsk, where the United Nations condemned this crime.
It is noteworthy that cluster munitions release hundreds of small bombs, most of which explode, while unexploded bombs remain to represent a danger to civilians, as they turn into silent mines for decades.
