SANA'A April 03. 2023 (Saba) - A consultative meeting in Sana'a, chaired by Minister of Public Health and Population Taha al-Mutawakel on Monday discussed mechanisms for preparing and updating the National List of Essential Medicines - Seventh Edition.
The meeting approved to deliver each medical Society the literature regarding its field from the drug list.
The Minister of Health stressed the importance of updating the national list of essential medicines, taking into account the country's needs and the latest scientific cases of medicines, indicating that medicine is one of the ministry's priorities, as it seeks to achieve drug quality and price, as it is linked to human life.
Al-Mutawakel reviewed the effects of the aggression on the health and medical sector, especially the pharmaceutical sector, urging doctors and specialists to adhere to the list of essential medicines, rationalize the use of medicines and take into account the purchasing power of citizens.
He also stressed the need to find out the causes and sources of the spread of diseases, especially chronic ones and to work on treatments for them to limit their spread, stressing that the Medicines Authority and doctors should promote awareness in using medicines and choosing the best and working to rationalize the use of medicines and the importance of giving effective medicines.
He said: "The Yemeni patient has suffered a lot because of the aggression and the blockade, which affected the import of medicines and the medicines supply as well as the withdrawal of many international pharmaceutical companies from Yemen. Therefore, everyone must assume responsibility in updating the list of essential medicines in a way that serves patients, especially patients with chronic diseases."
The Minister of Health stressed the need to develop future plans in the pharmaceutical field at the level of local manufacturing or foreign import.
