BRUSSELS March 20. 2023 (Saba) - Commissioner for External Relations of the European Union Josep Borrell has considered that the resumption of Iranian-Saudi relations would contribute to the stability of the region.
Borrell said in a joint press conference with the Iraqi foreign minister, who was visiting Brussels,"The Saudi-Iranian understanding is good news that will help reduce tension in the region."
This comes in conjunction with statements of the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in which he said: “He will hold a meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in the “near future.” He added: “We proposed three places to hold a meeting with a minister. Saudi Foreign Ministry.
Abdollahian made it clear that based on the latest exchanged messages with Saudi Arabia, Iran also announced its readiness to reopen the two embassies, pointing out that Tehran had agreed with Riyadh to visit technical delegations to the two embassies in preparation for their opening.
It is worth noting that Iran and Saudi Arabia announced on March 10 the resumption of their diplomatic relations, severed since 2016, following negotiations hosted by China.
