SANA'A, Jul. 03 (Saba) - Culture minister Abdullah al-Kebsi said on Sunday strict presidential directives were issued to withdraw metal detectors that were smuggled into Yemen during the last period.
In a statement to Saba, the minister stressed that the aggression and its mercenaries were not satisfied with looting and stealing archaeological and historical sites in the occupied provinces but also sought to loot, steal and destroy archaeological and historical sites and monuments in the free Yemeni provinces through metal detectors used by a number of people.
Al-Kebsi pointed out that the smuggling of metal detectors into the Yemeni provinces came in conjunction with the fierce media campaign carried out by the aggression through its paid Arab media channels to cover up its crimes in selling Yemeni artifacts in international auctions.
Minister al-Kebsi added, "These artifacts are not the first to be sold or smuggled, as a gang smuggling Yemeni antiquities had previously been arrested in London, and it turned out that this gang is part of a smuggling network run by the mercenary Muammar al-Iryani and has been working for years to smuggle artifacts from Yemen through Saudi Arabia." and sold on the black markets in Europe.
The Minister of Culture called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" to intervene in accordance with international conventions to prevent the sale of Yemeni antiquities in European and American auctions, stressing that the mercenary government is involved in smuggling and trading in Yemeni antiquities.
