Transport Minister confirms continued aggression inpiracy on shipping companies‏
[25/February/2020]

SANAA, Feb. 25 (Saba) - Transport Minister Zakaria al-Shami confirmed that the countries of the Aggression coalition continue to piracy on shipping companies and detain ships at sea for several months despite receiving permits from the "UNVIM".

The meeting discussed the steps achieved by the International Observer Mission in Hodeidah governorate, the facilities provided to the mission and the procedures for movement within the port of Hodeidah with ease, as well as procedures related to the mission's work.

The Minister of Transport, during his meeting on Monday with the head of the support of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement, Andrew Brimelow, pointed out that the aggression is currently detained at sea ten ships of oil derivatives, five ships carrying food and a ship carrying gas. He stressed that the coalition of aggression seeks through the detention of ships to increase the suffering of the Yemeni people and restrict the shipping companies.

Minister Al-Shami was surprised by the freeze on the transfer of the UN verification and inspection mechanism from Djibouti (UNVIM) to the port of Hodeidah to inspect and supervise ships arriving at the port, although it is a key focus of the Stockholm Agreement. He explained that the transfer of UNFM to the port of Hodeidah will facilitate the entry of ships into the port.

He called on the United Nations to support the continuation of the medical air bridge and to establish a mechanism to transport the largest number of patients suffering from chronic diseases because they could not be treated in Yemen. He noted that only 30 patients were transferred across the bridge this month out of 32,000 cases.

The President of Primlo confirmed that the topics discussed will be submitted to the head of the UN mission. He praised the facilities provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation to the mission team at the port of Hodeidah.

He noted that the success of the mission's work and the achievement of concrete positive steps would only be achieved with the joint cooperation and coordination between the National Rescue Government and the mission team.
