Fresh separatist ambush kills policeman in south

[26/February/2010]

ABYAN, Feb. 26 (Saba) – A policeman has been killed in Yemen's southern province of Abyan in an ambush that was carried out by a separatist armed gang, almotamar.net reported on Friday.

The gang is believed to be of Tariq al-Fadhli's violent militias and took place while Ahmed Abdullah Ba Sulaib, 45, was on way back home in Zunjbar city.

Eyewitnesses said they had heard heavy fire by an armed gang that ran away immediately after killing the policeman.

We found the body of the policeman swimming in blood after two bullets entered his head while he was on his motorbike, they said.

Security forces were seen at the incident site after the heinous crime and the body was transported to hospital, they added.

The murder occurred after Ba Sulaib received death threats from al-Fadhli's militias and came days after separatists killed a court guard in Lahj.

In recent weeks, few ambushes, blamed on the secessionist movement, occurred in some southern provinces.

The deadliest was when separatists last week ambushed a governmental car after Friday prayers killing a police director and two guards and injuring other officials in Dhale.
