Tight security after guns seizure in eastern Yemen

[17/October/2009]

HADRAMOUT, Oct. 17 (Saba) - The security forces in Yemen's eastern province of Hadramout have seized a truck carrying weapons that entered the province from neighboring province of Mahara.

The seizure prompted the Interior ministry to order security tight at the seaports in the two provinces to prevent further attempts to traffic guns into the country, according to the Information Center of the ministry.

The security sources pursued the car and it overturned during the chase.

The driver could run away while the car with its cargo was held by the authorities.

Last week, a ship that was carrying Chinese-made weapons was held in the Hodeida port in western Yemen.

The arms were said to have been imported with forged documents in the name of the Defense Ministry.

Later the authorities released an arms dealer blacklist with chief mediator between the government and the Houthi rebels in the north on top of it.

Parliament then approved to summon Defense Minister Mohammed Nasser Ahmed to investigate the suspected ship.
