US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that his special presidential envoy, Steve Witkoff, may visit Russia this week.

"He may go, I think next week, Wednesday or Thursday, he may go to Russia," Trump said in press statements when asked about Witkoff's plans.

Trump added that Witkoff "will work with the Russian side on a path to ending the war in Ukraine.

The US Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, stated on Sunday that Steve Witkoff, the US President's special envoy, will visit Moscow this weekend, expressing his hope for "progress" in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. "I know that Steve Witkoff, President Trump's special envoy, will be visiting Moscow this weekend, and I hope he makes progress," Whitaker said in an interview with HO 13 News.
