The Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, said on Monday that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached unbearable levels, calling for urgent action to increase humanitarian aid and avert the risk of famine.
The American official stated in an interview with CNN that the United States must redouble its efforts to secure food and medicine for the residents of the Strip, emphasizing that the continued flow of aid is vital as the crisis worsens.
He also stressed the need to restore the ceasefire that "was in place earlier," noting that "the ceasefire inherited by President Donald Trump from the Biden administration must be reinstated to establish a just and lasting peace."
Meanwhile, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing an unprecedented wave of hunger since the Israeli enemy closed the crossings of the Strip in early March and imposed severe restrictions on the entry of food aid, relief supplies, fuel, and medicine.
As time passes, Gaza's residents have exhausted all food resources, shops have emptied, and finding a loaf of bread has become nearly impossible. The available goods have seen a staggering rise in prices, making "death by starvation" one of the causes of death in the Strip—and one of the most brutal.
The Israeli enemy’s crimes against Palestinians awaiting aid in the Gaza Strip continue daily since the implementation of the "Israeli-American mechanism" supervised by the so-called "Humanitarian Gaza Foundation" on May 27.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy’s army has continued to commit genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 60,933 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 150,027 others—as of today—in a non-final toll. Thousands of victims remain under rubble and in the streets, unreachable by rescue and medical teams.
