The Traffic Police Department in Taiz carried out an awareness campaign on Sunday to educate the public about the penalties for motorcycle violations, in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision.
During the launch event at the Taiz Governorate Center, attended by the Assistant Director of Security for the Governorate, Colonel Saleh Duwaid, and several security department directors, Brigadier General Fatik Al-Shamsi, Director of Taiz Traffic Police, explained that the campaign comes in implementation of directives from the Ministry of Interior, the General Traffic Police Department, the local authorities in Taiz Governorate, and the General Police Department. The campaign aims to raise awareness among motorcycle owners and riders to ensure their safety and that of pedestrians, as well as to present Taiz in a civilized manner.
He noted that the regulations include violations commonly committed by motorcycle riders, such as riding without license plates, driving in the wrong lane, disobeying traffic officers’ instructions, riding on sidewalks or over median strips, carrying more than one passenger, not wearing helmets while riding, illegal parking in roundabouts , intersections, and using loud horns or disturbing headlights.
Brigadier General Al-Shamsi urged motorcycle owners and riders to comply with these penalty regulations to ensure their safety. He emphasized that the awareness campaign will be followed by strict field enforcement to monitor violators and take legal action against offenders.
He also directed the formation of a special committee to oversee motorcycle sales at the Taiz Traffic Police Department headquarters, facilitating procedures and licensing for motorcycles.
