Sana’a - Saba:

Capital Sana'a's Undersecretary for Agricultural Affairs Mohammad Sarea, along with Director of Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Eng. Mutahar Mohammed, reviewed the Capital Sana'a's fruit tree planting initiative in various locations within al-Safiyah and al-Sabeen districts.

They were briefed by Eng. Mohammed Hajar, Head of the Agriculture Sector in the Sana'a, on the stages of implementing the fruit tree planting plan, including the selection of planting sites, the types of trees being cultivated, and irrigation and technical care mechanisms.

Hajar explained that the initiative focuses on planting productive fruit trees—such as guava, peach, and lemon—instead of ornamental trees, as part of an effort to improve urban greenery and enhance food security by utilizing public spaces for sustainable fruit production.

He noted that the plan is based on community and institutional coordination, includes clear execution schedules, and involves distributing seedlings according to neighborhood priorities, thereby contributing to urban beautification and environmental improvement.

Undersecretary Sarea emphasized the importance of expanding the initiative to all districts of the Secretariat, viewing it as a strategic step toward self-sufficiency and environmental betterment. He praised community involvement and participation in the effort.

He also stressed the need for field monitoring of the initiative's progress, regular reporting on performance and challenges, and strengthening collaboration between official and community entities to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

For his part, Eng. Mutahar Mohammed commended the efforts of the Sana'a's agriculture leadership and called for documenting this initiative as a successful model that could be replicated across other provinces, particularly in light of climate change and economic challenges facing the country.

The initiative is part of a broader plan adopted by the Capital Sana'a's Agriculture Sector to plant thousands of fruit-bearing saplings in neighborhoods and along main roads during the rainy season, transforming urban landscaping into a sustainable and productive activity that helps cities adapt to environmental changes.
