Washington - Saba:
US Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, stated that US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, will visit Moscow at the end of this week, expressing his hope for "progress" in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. "I know that Steve Witkoff, President Trump's special envoy, will be visiting Moscow this weekend, and I hope he makes progress," Whitaker said in an interview with WHO 13 News.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Witkoff would visit Russia in the coming days.
Regarding the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Russia, Trump added: "We will impose sanctions. I don't know if sanctions bother him [Russian President Vladimir Putin]. They know about sanctions. I know more than anyone about sanctions and tariffs and everything else. I don't know if it has any effect."
The Kremlin, on the other hand, stated on Wednesday that Russia continues to take into account all of Trump's comments, but has gained immunity from sanctions because it has been subjected to so many of them over a long period.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "We have been living under a huge number of sanctions for a long time, and our economy is under severe restrictions." "Therefore, we have already acquired special immunity in this regard, and we continue to monitor all comments made by President Trump and other international representatives on this matter," he added.
