Sana’a University advances 1,500 places in webometrics global ranking

Sana’a - Saba:
Sana’a University has achieved an unprecedented milestone in its history by advancing 1,500 places in the 2025 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, issued by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

The latest July 2025 ranking results show that Sana’a University climbed from 3,562nd place in February to 2,056th place** globally, surpassing prestigious Arab, regional, and international universities. The university now ranks first among both public and private universities in Yemen, 191st in the Arab world, and 1,758th in Asia, out of more than 32,000 universities worldwide.

Webometrics ranks universities based on their online academic and research activities, digital visibility, and the quality of published research by their faculty and staff. The ranking aims to enhance higher education and scientific research quality while promoting open-access scholarly publications.

This classification serves as an indicator of universities' commitment to leveraging the internet to showcase their work. It evaluates institutional performance through their websites, focusing on three key criteria: size (web presence), research output, and impact (citation visibility).

The Webometrics Ranking is one of the most important global indicators for measuring university performance. It relies on precise digital metrics, including website content transparency, research output quality, and the institution’s global digital influence, encouraging universities to advance open-access publishing and achieve digital and academic excellence.

In this regard, Dr. Mohammed Al-Bukaiti, President of Sana’a University, congratulated all university members for their scientific and research achievements, which enabled the institution to secure advanced positions in global rankings. He expressed pride in this milestone, highlighting the university’s remarkable progress.

Dr. Al-Bukaiti emphasized that Sana’a University’s continued leadership among Yemeni and regional universities in global rankings, including Webometrics, is the result of collective efforts and strategic planning. He noted the university’s commitment to providing quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs (Master’s and PhD) while expanding its digital presence in line with international academic standards.

He attributed this progress to recent developments at the university, including the adoption of best educational, academic, and media practices, support for scientific research, and the presence of a highly qualified academic and research staff.

The university is steadily modernizing its infrastructure, including laboratories, workshops, and digital systems, while enhancing the websites of its colleges, research centers, and service facilities. Efforts are also underway to publish more scientific content in both Arabic and English.

Additionally, the university has established a media policy to regulate digital publishing and align its communications strategy with improving its international ranking and digital presence across search engines and academic platforms.

To date, the university has launched 44 bilingual (Arabic/English) websites and 306 official social media pages, covering all its faculties, centers, and academic facilities, strengthening engagement with students and the broader community.

Dr. Al-Bukaiti affirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining this trajectory, ensuring a strong presence in global rankings while advancing educational quality and digital outreach. This integrated approach highlights the university’s growing stature both locally and internationally.

Notably, Sana’a University has climbed 3,357 places over the past seven years, rising from 5,413th place in 2018 to its current position.
