The European Council approved on Friday its 18th sanctions package against Russia, targeting 14 individuals and 41 legal entities.
In an official statement, the Council announced: "Today's measures include economic and individual restrictions targeting Russia's energy, banking, and military sectors... The approved list comprises 55 entries, including 14 individuals and 41 legal entities."
Notably, the sanctions for the first time include an unidentified ship captain and a private international shipping company.
Key measures in the new package feature:
- An automatic adjustment mechanism for the Russian oil price cap
- Termination of oil import exemptions for the Czech Republic
- Ban on petroleum products derived from Russian oil imported via third countries (excluding Canada, Norway, Switzerland, UK, and US)
Separately, the EU imposed sanctions on 8 Belarusian military-industrial companies as part of the new anti-Russia measures.
