Madrid – Saba:
Atlético Madrid announced on Friday the signing of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada on a five-year deal from Brazilian club Botafogo.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Spanish club confirmed that Almada has completed his medical and signed his contract, becoming a key addition to the team’s ambitious project.
The club emphasized its commitment to building a competitive squad for future successes, highlighting Almada’s versatility as a player capable of covering multiple positions. The 24-year-old was part of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, starting in four matches and appearing as a substitute in others. He remains a regular fixture in the national team.
Almada becomes Atlético’s fourth signing in the current summer transfer window, following left-winger Álex Baena (Villarreal), American midfielder Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis), and left-back Matteo Ruggeri (Atalanta).
Atlético Madrid will begin their 2025-26 season against Espanyol on August 17 in the opening round of La Liga.
