The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Muezz Abu Sneineh, confirmed on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation authorities are attempting to revoke the Hebron Municipality's jurisdiction over the management of the Ibrahimi Sanctuary, describing this move as a "blatant and flagrant violation” of one of the city's most prominent historical and religious landmarks.
In a statement to the Shehab News Agency, Abu Sneineh cited reports in Hebrew newspapers indicating the Israeli enemy's intention to implement this measure, viewing it as an effort to impose a new reality on the Ibrahimi Sanctuary and seize full control over it. This would disregard all international laws and conventions that recognize the sanctuary as a protected historical and heritage site, including by UNESCO.
He warned that transferring the administration of the Ibrahimi Sanctuary from the Islamic Waqf and Hebron Municipality to the "Kiryat Arba" settlement council and Jewish governing bodies would effectively annex the sanctuary and convert it into an exclusively Jewish worship site.
