Ramallah - Saba:
The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority stated on Monday that detainees in the Zionist "Ofer" prison are suffering from harsh and degrading detention conditions that worsen daily, since October 7, 2023.
According to the Palestinian "Safa" news agency, lawyers from the Authority visited several prisoners, including Abdullah Jawarish, Adham Awad, Abdulrahman Mansour, Momen Qawasmi, Ismail Al-Ja'fari, and Muhammad Kamil.
Abdullah Jawarish, a detainee from Bethlehem who remains held under two administrative detention orders, reported that the conditions in Ofer Prison are extremely dire. The time allotted for outdoor breaks ("foura") has been reduced to just five to ten minutes.
He explained that cell inspections are ongoing, and prison guards treat inmates in an unprecedented, degrading manner. Regarding food, Jawarish stated that the prison administration continues to enforce a starvation policy, with severe shortages and extremely poor quality, leading to significant weight loss among all prisoners.
He added that the prison administration deliberately confiscates all prisoners' belongings, leaving them with nothing but the clothes they wear. Hot water and hygiene supplies are also unavailable in the cells.
Meanwhile, Momen Qawasmi, a detainee from Beitunia, noted that the detention conditions faced by juvenile prisoners—numbering between 150 and 170—have severely worsened their psychological state, particularly due to insults, verbal abuse, denial of family visits, isolation from the outside world, and food deprivation.
For his part, prisoner Ismail Al-Ja'fari pointed out that no medical treatment is provided to inmates except painkillers, and medical examinations are only conducted in extremely critical cases.
