Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived on Friday in the city of Khankendi in the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
According to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), President Pezeshkian will deliver a speech at the summit and is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several participating heads of state.
Before his departure, President Pezeshkian stated that the visit comes within the framework of trilateral relations between Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan, and represents a first step toward broader regional cooperation among ten member states. In addition to the host country Azerbaijan, the summit will also be attended by the presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
The president added that the 17th ECO Summit provides an important opportunity for the exchange of views on economic, social, and political issues, as well as the creation of joint cooperation initiatives in line with regional interests.
He stressed the importance of strengthening regional relations, expressing hope that participation in the summit would enhance political interaction, pave the way for improved regional conditions, and contribute to peace, stability, and increased cooperation among neighboring countries.
President Pezeshkian further noted that the ambitions of hostile forces to create insecurity will diminish as regional coordination and cooperation increase.
