Ibb - Saba:
A meeting of the Ibb branch of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities discussed on Thursday the legal and regulatory procedures related to addressing violations of wells and water desalination and purification stations.
The meeting, attended by Prosecutor Abdullah Al-Ahdal, Deputy of Violations and Traffic Prosecution, and Mohammed Al-Warafi, Director of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities in Ibb, along with department heads and judicial control officers, reviewed coordination mechanisms with the prosecution to enhance the effectiveness of field campaigns and regulate judicial control procedures.
The meeting addressed the field efforts carried out by the authority’s branch in implementing campaigns to shut down water facilities violating health and technical regulations. It also covered procedures for notifying violators, ensuring legal requirements are met to rectify well conditions, and installing meters to measure groundwater extraction—aimed at preserving water resources from depletion and pollution.
The meeting emphasized the importance of continuous coordination between the authority’s branch and the Violations Prosecution to expedite litigation and law enforcement, ensuring legal deterrence and safeguarding water resources from misuse.
Prosecutor Al-Ahdal praised the role of the authority’s branch in conducting field campaigns to shut down violating water facilities, highlighting the tangible results that have improved oversight and public health protection. He affirmed the prosecution’s support for these efforts both in the field and legally.
He stressed the need to continue field campaigns to shut down unlicensed wells in the city center until violators rectify their legal status and meet technical requirements. He also underscored the importance of taking strict legal action against those who exploit water resources to ensure effective law enforcement and protect groundwater from depletion and pollution.
For his part, Al-Warafi confirmed that protecting groundwater from depletion and pollution is a top priority for the authority, driven by national and religious responsibility. He noted that the authority has recently carried out field campaigns resulting in the closure of several violating wells and stations, while others were notified to comply with health and legal regulations.
Al-Warafi clarified that the authority’s branch will continue its efforts to monitor and shut down violating wells that fail to meet legal and technical standards, as part of its commitment to protecting water resources and preserving groundwater basins from uncontrolled depletion.
