Dhamar - Saba:
A meeting in Dhamar province, chaired by Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaity, discussed on Wednesday the interventions of the Swiss organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in supporting the health sector to combat the measles outbreak.

The meeting, attended by the head of MSF’s mission in Yemen and delegation members, saw Governor Al-Bukhaity praising MSF’s humanitarian response and its active role in supporting the health sector through targeted interventions aimed at alleviating suffering.

He highlighted MSF’s support for the isolation center at Al-Wahda Teaching University Hospital in Ma’bar city, as well as its efforts in operating mobile clinics across six districts to provide measles treatment, vaccination, and malnutrition care.

Governor Al-Bukhaity noted the health sector’s efforts in combating the spread of acute watery diarrhea and measles despite limited resources, stressing the importance of enhanced coordination to address challenges within available means.

Meanwhile, the head of MSF’s mission in Yemen explained that MSF is working to mitigate the suffering caused by the measles outbreak. She pointed to the support provided to the isolation center at Al-Wahda Hospital and mobile clinics in the districts of Al-Hada, Juhran, Dhuran, Jabal Al-Sharq, Ans, and Mayfa’at Ans, delivering treatment, vaccination, and malnutrition services.

She affirmed MSF’s commitment to expanding future interventions based on available resources to further support the health sector’s efforts.

For his part, Dr. Tariq Al-Khiwani, Director of the Health Office, outlined the challenges facing the health sector due to the spread of measles and acute watery diarrhea in several districts. He highlighted ongoing efforts to raise health awareness and educate communities on preventive measures.

He expressed hope for continued MSF support for mobile clinics, disease control efforts, and the provision of essential medicines and medical supplies.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Maqdad, Director of Al-Wahda Teaching University Hospital, reviewed the hospital’s efforts in receiving measles cases from across the province and neighboring governorates.

He noted that the hospital admits new measles and acute watery diarrhea cases daily, stressing the need for sustained medical services, isolation center support, and urgent supplies of medicines, IV fluids, and hygiene materials.

At the meeting’s conclusion, Governor Al-Bukhaity honored MSF and its mission head in recognition of their humanitarian efforts in supporting the health sector and combating disease outbreaks.

Following the meeting, the Health Office Director and MSF’s delegation visited the isolation center at Al-Wahda Hospital in Ma’bar. They received a briefing from the hospital director on the center’s activities, medical care for measles patients, and operational challenges due to limited resources and rising caseloads, including acute watery diarrhea cases.
