Dublin – Saba:
The Irish government announced on Friday its approval of a bill prohibiting the import of goods produced in Zionist settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Quds.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris stated the proposed legislation, which has received government backing, will now proceed to the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee for review before final adoption, according to Palestinian Safa News Agency.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade clarified in a statement that this measure aligns with the 2024 International Court of Justice advisory opinion declaring Israel's presence in these territories illegal, urging states to refrain from supporting this reality through trade or investment.
The legislation grants Irish customs authorities broad powers to inspect and confiscate goods proven to originate from Zionist settlements.
Harris expressed hope this move would inspire other nations to adopt similar positions.
