Russia, China, and Pakistan have distributed a draft resolution condemning the U.S. attack on Iran among members of the United Nations Security Council.
A UN source told Sputnik on Sunday that the draft strongly condemns the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The resolution asserts that these strikes pose a significant threat to international peace and security. Additionally, it demands an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and reaffirms the obligation of all parties to protect civilians under international law.
The draft also calls for a diplomatic resolution and proposes guarantees for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of all multilateral and unilateral sanctions.
Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s mission to the UN sent a letter to the Security Council urging an "emergency meeting following today’s U.S. aggression against the nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan."
In its letter, the Iranian mission stated that this was a "blatant and unlawful act of aggression" that must be "condemned in the strongest terms," with all necessary measures taken under the Council’s UN Charter-mandated responsibilities to ensure "full accountability for the perpetrators of these heinous crimes."
The United States launched an attack on three Iranian nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
