Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have no evidence that Iran has sought to acquire nuclear weapons, noting that his country has repeatedly informed Tel Aviv of the lack of evidence that Tehran is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.
Putin said in an interview with Sky News Arabia: "Neither Russia nor the IAEA have any evidence that Iran wants or is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons."
Putin added: "We have repeatedly informed Israel that there is no evidence of Iran's alleged intentions to acquire nuclear weapons."
In response to a question about the Iranian nuclear program, Putin explained that there are some details that can be discussed and agreed upon.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Friday that his country is in contact with both Iran and Israel, against the backdrop of the conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv after the latter carried out an attack on Iran.
During a plenary session on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said, "As you know, we are in contact with both Israel and our Iranian friends. We have some proposals for our participation."
Putin noted that Russia is not seeking to mediate a settlement to the conflict between Israel and Iran, but is putting forward its own ideas. He noted that it is possible to find solutions acceptable to both Tehran and Tel Aviv to resolve the conflict, and that there is potential common ground for a settlement.
Putin added, "Many countries in the region have fairly complex and relatively stable relations with both sides, both Israel and Iran. This gives grounds for belief, reflection, and hope that the countries of the Global South in general, and the countries of the region in particular, are capable of influencing this process to end the acute phase of the conflict."
