Geneva – SABA:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, warned that tragedies in Gaza continue unabated, while global attention shifts to other regions.
According to the official Palestinian news agency on Monday, Lazzarini stated on UNRWA’s official page that “dozens have been killed and injured in recent days, including starving people who were trying to obtain food through a deadly distribution system.”
He added that “restrictions on the entry of aid through the United Nations, including UNRWA, persist despite the availability of large quantities of humanitarian assistance ready to enter Gaza. Furthermore, a severe shortage of fuel is now hindering the delivery of essential services, especially healthcare and water.”
Lazzarini stressed that continued killings will only generate more wars and bloodshed, with civilians remaining the primary victims and suffering the most.
He emphasized that political will, leadership, and courage are urgently needed now more than ever.
With American and European support, the Israeli occupation army has continued, since October 7, 2023, to commit acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 55,432 Palestinians—most of them women and children—and the injury of 128,923 others, according to preliminary figures. Thousands more remain trapped under rubble or in the streets, unreachable by rescue teams.
