Ramallah – SABA:
Palestinian prisoner institutions condemned the US Treasury Department's inclusion of the "Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association" on its terrorism list.
According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) on Sunday, the institutions rejected the US Treasury's allegations linking Addameer—one of the most prominent Palestinian organizations that has worked for decades defending the rights of Palestinian prisoners—to the "Popular Front" organization, describing them as baseless and false.
They emphasized that the decision represents a political step tied to the ongoing aggression led by the Israeli occupation, which has systematically targeted Palestinian rights groups by labeling Addameer and other civil society organizations as "illegal" and issuing military orders to shut them down.
The institutions—which include the Commission of Prisoners' and Ex-Prisoners' Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoner's Club, the Higher National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, and the Center for Defense of Freedoms—stressed that this decision is yet another attempt by the occupation to criminalize the work of human rights organizations and undermine their vital role in advocating for prisoners.
In this context, they called on the international human rights community and the United Nations to condemn this US decision, which is part of broader efforts to target Palestine's human rights framework.
