Nice - Saba:
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would not rule out resorting to dissolving Parliament again if the opposition obstructs the work of the legislative body, indicating his adherence to his constitutional powers.
This came in press statements he made on the sidelines of the UN Oceans Conference in Nice on Monday, according to Western media.
Macron said: "I would like to avoid another dissolution of Parliament, but it is not my habit to strip myself of my constitutional powers. If political parties act irresponsibly and decide to obstruct state institutions, I may again have to resort to the Constitution."
Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly (the French parliament) in the summer of 2024 following his party's failure in the European Parliament elections.
He called for early elections, but no party won a majority enough to form a new government.
Earlier in the year, media reports indicated that the French president was considering dissolving parliament again in the fall of 2025 amid the ongoing political deadlock.
