Madrid - Saba:
The Spanish Ministry of Defense announced that it has decided to cancel an arms deal with the Israeli entity in response to its crimes against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
El Pais newspaper quoted Spanish government sources as saying that the Spanish Ministry of Defense decided to cancel a deal to purchase 168 launchers and 1,680 Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles worth €287.5 million. The missiles were scheduled to be manufactured in Spain by Israel.
This step comes as part of the "technological disengagement" plan from the Israeli military industry, announced by the Spanish Ministry of Defense last Friday, to end "technological dependence" on Israel.
With the launch of this plan, the ministry is moving toward the implementation of a proposed law prohibiting the purchase and sale of weapons to countries accused of crimes against humanity in international courts, such as Israel.
It's worth noting that a law banning the purchase and sale of weapons to countries accused of committing crimes against humanity has been urgently submitted for debate in the Spanish parliament at the initiative of the Sumar party.
