Russian-Ukrainian negotiations begin in Istanbul to end war
[Mon, 02 Jun 2025 20:27:40 +0300]

Istanbul – Saba:
Russian-Ukrainian negotiations aimed at ending the war between the two countries commenced in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, on Monday.

This marks the second round of direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

According to Anadolu Agency, the trilateral meeting is chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, with the participation of Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalın and Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak.

The Russian delegation includes Presidential Advisor Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, and the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff, Igor Kostyukov.

The Ukrainian delegation comprises Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia, Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Poklad, and Deputy Head of Foreign Intelligence Oleh Luhovsky.

The agency reported that Ukraine has handed the Russian side a memorandum outlining its vision for ending the conflict, including principles and procedures for achieving peace. Russia is expected to present its own memorandum during the meeting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that he had tasked a delegation, led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, to participate in peace negotiations to end the war.

Last Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that his country had proposed a new round of talks in Istanbul on June 2, with Medinsky leading the Russian delegation.

It is worth noting that on May 15-16, Istanbul hosted peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which concluded with an agreement to exchange 2,000 prisoners between the two sides.
