Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, affirmed on Sunday that the Palestinian people are being subjected to genocide and ethnic cleansing, describing it as the worst in modern history.
According to Quds Press, during a meeting with Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara at Al-Azhar headquarters, Al-Tayeb stated that the genocide in Gaza has been ongoing for nearly two years under unprecedented international apathy and weakness.
The Grand Imam added that the Israeli enemy has committed horrific massacres, deliberately targeting innocent civilians—children, women, the elderly, and the youth—as well as destroying hospitals, mosques, churches, and schools.
He emphasized that “this entity has proven itself to be anti-humanity,” referring to the Israeli regime’s practices against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.
The enemy resumed its aggression and tightened siege on the Gaza Strip in the early hours of March 18, 2025, following a two-month pause that began under a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on January 19. However, the enemy violated the terms of the agreement throughout the truce period.
