Kampala - Saba:
Ugandan authorities have announced the suspension of military cooperation with Germany, accusing the German ambassador to Uganda, Matthias Schauer, of interfering in the country's internal affairs and supporting opposition groups.
The Ugandan newspaper Monitor reported on Sunday: "The Ugandan Armed Forces have declared an immediate halt to all forms of defense and military cooperation with Germany, citing what it described as subversive activities by Berlin’s ambassador in Kampala."
The newspaper added that the accusations against the German diplomat are not limited to meddling in internal affairs but also include providing support to opposition groups within the country.
Monitor also noted that the German diplomat had previously criticized the Commander-in-Chief of Uganda’s Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, during a meeting between them, over what he deemed "unacceptable behavior" on social media that could harm the military institution's reputation.
According to the newspaper, this dispute marks one of the most significant diplomatic crises between Uganda and a European country in recent times.
