[Wed, 21 May 2025 23:45:06 +0300]

Istanbul – SABA:

Turkey announced it is negotiating with several countries, including Russia, regarding the construction of second and third nuclear power plants.

The Turkish newspaper Sabah reported on Wednesday that Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Russia, South Korea, and China have expressed interest in these projects, along with other companies, including Canada’s CANDU. He added:
"We will select the most suitable option for Turkey."

The minister had previously indicated that the final decision on building nuclear plants in Sinop (Black Sea region) and Thrace will be made in the coming months.

- Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is Turkey’s first nuclear facility, being constructed by Russia’s Rosatom.
- The project includes four VVER-1200 reactors (Generation III+) with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts.
