Doha - Saba:
Basem Naim, a senior official in the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas," stated that the increasing media talk about a new U.S. mechanism for distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza Strip necessitates clarification.
He emphasized that the Palestinian people’s right to food , medicine is guaranteed under international humanitarian law and cannot be subject to negotiation.
In a post written on his Facebook page on Friday, Naim added that the Israeli occupation, even if it acts as a "rogue entity," remains bound by its obligations as an occupying power under international legal standards. He affirmed that the attempts by the occupation and its supporters to break the will of the Palestinians through policies of starvation and deprivation of medicine have failed, despite the ongoing suffering.
He pointed out that all attempts to bypass the delivery of aid—away from militarization or under the control of the occupation—have been met with widespread rejection by international and UN institutions, "as well as by local community leaders , family elders, who refused to be part of the occupation’s schemes of control, isolation, and displacement."
Regarding the new U.S. plan, Naim argued that the U.S. administration is seeking to improve its image ahead of an upcoming visit, after failing to impose a conditional ceasefire agreement on the resistance.
The Hamas official warned against attempts to involve "local parties" in implementing this plan, stressing that any entity or individual cooperating with American or Israeli schemes would become a tool in the hands of the occupation, holding them responsible for the consequences.
Naim concluded his statement by affirming that "our people will prevail and will secure not only their sustenance but also their freedom, dignity, and right of return, whether others like it or not."
