Gaza – Saba:
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has described the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as catastrophic, with no aid deliveries in over two months, and access to clean drinking water becoming a distant dream for the population.
Jonathan Crickx, UNICEF spokesperson, stated in a press briefing that not a single shipment of humanitarian aid has entered Gaza in the past 65 days.
He revealed that 90% of Gaza’s population struggles to access safe drinking water due to the destruction of water infrastructure and the shortage of essential chemicals needed to operate desalination plants.
Crickx noted that during the brief ceasefire, some parts of the water network were partially restored, which was crucial, as between 65% and 70% of Gaza’s water infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed during the war.
He emphasized that children are bearing the brunt of this crisis, facing severe dehydration and suffering due to the lack of potable water.
“The scale of destruction to the entire water network after nearly 19 months of war is without question immense,” Crickx concluded.
