London – Saba:
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah of Liverpool has been crowned the Footballer of the Year in the English Premier League by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) for the third time in his career.
According to a statement by the English Football Association, Salah secured 90 percent of the vote among more than 900 FWA members—the highest winning margin recorded in this century.
Salah becomes only the second player in history to win the award three times, joining Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in that elite category.
The Egyptian international currently leads the Premier League’s scoring chart with 28 goals this season. He has played a key role in helping Liverpool win the league title for the second time since his arrival in 2017, and for the 20th time in the club’s history.
Liverpool’s Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk finished second in the poll, ahead of Alexander Isak of Newcastle United and Declan Rice of Arsenal.
