How to Recognize Concussion in Time

Moscow - (Saba):
Russian doctor Georgy Tishkin points out that a concussion requires mandatory medical attention. However, not everyone seeks medical help, especially when the symptoms are not obvious.

The Russian doctor, as reported by gazeta.ru and cited by Russia Today, explains the signs to watch for and how to avoid complications. According to him, people often underestimate this injury, attributing the symptoms to fatigue or stress. However, failure to diagnose and treat it promptly can lead to serious health consequences.

The doctor notes that concussion is not always accompanied by loss of consciousness or obvious external damage, so he advises paying attention to the following signs: headache that does not go away even after rest; nausea or vomiting not related to eating; dizziness, coordination problems, or "fog" in the head; photophobia and phonophobia, where even familiar household sounds or dim light become disturbing; memory impairment—difficulty remembering the moment of injury or concentrating; Emotional changes - unexplained anxiety, crying, and sudden mood swings.

He says, "If these symptoms appear after a blow to the head, a fall, or a car accident, don't delay seeing a doctor, because even a mild concussion requires close monitoring."

According to him, failure to receive timely treatment can lead to long-term complications that appear months or even years later. These include: post-traumatic encephalopathy - a chronic brain disorder that causes decreased concentration, hand tremors, and slowed thinking; chronic migraines that are difficult to treat; vascular disorders - high blood pressure, weather sensitivity, and insomnia; and psychological disorders - depression, panic attacks, and emotional instability.

The Russian doctor points out that the risk of complications is particularly high in children, the elderly, and those who have suffered repeated injuries. Therefore, if someone suspects a concussion, they should consult a neurologist for a proper examination and prescription of appropriate treatment, as a concussion is not just a bruise, but an injury that requires timely treatment to avoid complications.
