Russia's deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, announced that talks between Moscow and Washington on normalizing relations go far beyond efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"I think we are at the beginning of this process, and it is a very important process," Polyansky was quoted as saying by Sputnik.
He added, "Russian-American efforts for normalization are much greater than our negotiations on a possible solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
The Russian envoy indicated his belief in the possibility of achieving this normalization, adding that it would benefit not only Russia and the United States, but the entire world.
Polyansky emphasized, "This could certainly push our two countries toward normalizing relations, which would be in the interests not only of Russia and the United States, but of the entire world." He added, "I believe this is the prevailing view among our partners with whom we are discussing these matters."
