Hodeida - Saba:
Ahmed Al-Bishri, the First Undersecretary of Al Hodeida province, along with the Director of Zabid District, Yahya Abbad, inaugurated work on the first phase of a project to rehabilitate irrigation facilities and canals in Wadi Zabid.
The project, funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the province, has a budget of 189,866,000 Yemeni riyals.
The project is being implemented by the Zabid Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative Association, under the supervision of the Tihama Development Authority and the Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit, as part of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate agricultural infrastructure in Wadi Zabid.
During the inauguration, the First Undersecretary emphasized that the project marks a significant step in efforts to advance the agricultural sector in Wadi Zabid, one of the most important agricultural valleys in the province. He noted that rehabilitating the canals , water facilities will improve water resource management and increase irrigation efficiency.
Al-Bishri affirmed that the project reflects the commitment of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to agricultural development and achieving self-sufficiency, particularly in light of challenges resulting from aggression. He stressed that enhancing food security begins with supporting farmers and equipping them with the necessary production tools.
He added that Wadi Zabid is a cornerstone of the province’s agricultural sector , that the project will boost farmland productivity and improve the income of farming families.
Al-Bishri praised the effective role of the Tihama Development Authority in providing technical oversight and coordinating with the Agricultural , Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit to ensure the project’s desired impact. He also emphasized the importance of integrating official and community efforts for the project’s success.
For his part, the District Director stated that the project responds to the long-standing demands of farmers who have faced difficulties in accessing water for their farms. He noted that rehabilitating the canals will revive vast agricultural areas that have suffered from neglect for years.
He explained that the first phase of the project will cover extensive farmland, reduce irrigation costs, and improve soil quality. He called on residents to maintain the project’s facilities and cooperate with the implementing agencies.
The project includes rehabilitating and maintaining several water channels and facilities spanning several kilometers, improving water delivery to farmlands, and enhancing water-use efficiency while minimizing waste.
