Rio De Janeiro - Saba:

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated in a speech at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro that BRICS countries must take the lead and become pillars of peace and development.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Wang Yi as saying: "The international environment is undergoing profound changes, and the world has entered a period of turmoil and transformation. The cause of peace and development is facing new serious challenges. The basic principles of international cooperation are being undermined. The foundations of the development of international relations are facing continuous challenges, and the international environment conducive to peace and development is under threat." He added, "At this critical moment in history, the future of all humanity directly depends on whether countries are able to make the right choice."

The minister emphasized that "BRICS countries, as a constructive and positive force on the international stage, must play a leading role and become the backbone of the cause of peace and development."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Monday that Russia, along with China and its friends in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, stands at the forefront of the international movement for justice and equality.

From March 31 to April 1, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid an official visit to Moscow, where he was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin and held detailed talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
