The United Nations announced on Friday that nearly 9,000 people died on migration routes last year.
The United Nations said that "last year was the deadliest year for migrants, with nearly 9,000 people dying worldwide," describing it as an "unacceptable and preventable" tragedy.
The UN Migration Agency added: "At least 8,938 people will die on migration routes worldwide in 2024."
It said: "This number of deaths recorded in 2024 continues a five-year trend of increasing deaths annually."
According to the United Nations, an unprecedented number of people are now living in a country other than the one in which they were born.
