UNICEF: 90% of Gaza's population lacks access to water

New York - Saba:
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said last night that the Gaza Strip is suffering from a severe water shortage, and that only one in ten people currently have access to safe drinking water, representing 90% of the population.

Rozalia Poulin, UNICEF's Gaza official, reported that 600,000 people regained access to drinking water in November 2024, but it was cut off again.

UN agencies estimate that 1.8 million people, more than half of whom are children, urgently need water, sanitation, and health assistance.

They confirmed that the situation has further deteriorated following the decision to cut off electricity to the Gaza Strip, disrupting vital desalination operations.
