Tehran - Saba:
Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna, Mohsen Nazari, ridiculed the request of the Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to submit a comprehensive report on Iran's peaceful nuclear program, considering it to lack any legal basis.
Mehr News Agency reported that the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Organizations in Vienna, Mohsen Nazari, said during the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, yesterday, Tuesday, "According to the latest Safeguards Implementation Report (SIR 2023), among 46 countries that have safeguards agreements but do not implement the Additional Protocol, the Islamic Republic of Iran alone is subject to 75 percent of all IAEA safeguards inspections."
He pointed out that about a quarter of the total inspections carried out by the agency are devoted to Iranian nuclear facilities, adding: "This is despite the fact that these facilities constitute only three percent of the total nuclear facilities in the world. The agency would not have been able to achieve this level of access without Iran's continuous cooperation."
Nazari said: "This report should have emphasized Iran's unprecedented cooperation with the agency. In 2024, the average number of IAEA inspectors or experts present in Iran per day was nine inspectors, and on some days this number reached 19. In total, the agency's safeguards team was present in Iran for more than 3,400 working days this year. This high level of cooperation would not have been possible without Iran's constructive engagement with the agency."
Referring to Iran's commitment to continue sincere cooperation with the agency within the framework of the comprehensive safeguards agreement, he pointed out that this commitment was also emphasized in the letter of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Director General of the Agency.
Nazari stated: "Our cooperation with the agency has not only been technical, but Iran has actively sought constructive dialogues over the past two years. This approach has led to the agency's director general making several visits to Iran, paving the way for him to carry out his duties and enhance bilateral cooperation. However, the European Three (E3)/EU and the United States have consistently tried to undermine this process and create an obstacle to progress in resolving the existing issues."
