Yemen launches new medicine, pharmacy law to ensure pharmaceutical safety
[Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:53:12 +0300]

Sana'a - Saba:

Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi on Saturday participated in the launch of the Medicine and Pharmacy Law 1446 AH, a significant legislative achievement aimed at regulating the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring public health.

The law, enacted by the Ministry of Health and Environment and the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, is hailed as a "pharmaceutical safety valve."

Prime Minister al-Rahawi emphasized the law's importance in legalizing and regulating the pharmaceutical industry, controlling the dispensing of medicines, and protecting society from improper drug use. He stressed the need for strict enforcement and continuous monitoring to ensure its effectiveness.

"This law is a great achievement for the benefit of society and its health," stated al-Rahawi. He also highlighted the government's commitment to expanding local pharmaceutical production to reduce reliance on imports.

Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shiban described the law as the first comprehensive legislation of its kind in Yemen.

He noted its focus on transitioning from a purely commercial approach to medicine to a service-oriented one, emphasizing rational drug use, governance, and controlled sales.
