Sana'a - Saba:
The Yemeni Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority issued an identification guide for the names of goldsmith workshops and the stamp symbols of the jewelry registered with it.
The guide included a number of chapters, including the legal reference for granting licenses to practice the profession, the procedures and requirements for granting licenses and the obligations that must be adhered to when practicing the profession of selling and buying precious metal jewelry, the names of registered goldsmith workshops and the role of the Authority in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The guide included defining the tasks and responsibilities assigned to workers in the precious metals and gemstones sector to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as publishing the instructions, procedures and circulars issued by the Authority, especially those related to combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Executive Director General of the Authority, Sam Al-Bashiri, explained in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the guide aims to limit gold and precious metals crafting workshops and to inform owners of jewelry stores of the workshops and factories registered with the Authority for the purpose of dealing with them and no others, in addition to preserving the reputation of local jewelry crafting and developing their capabilities and enabling them to compete domestically and abroad.
He stated that a specialized field team will be sent to distribute the guide to gold and precious metals crafting shops and take samples for examination and verification of their compliance with legal carats, in addition to distributing an introductory brochure on the gold and precious metals services system provided by the Authority electronically. Al-Bashiri indicated that the electronic system will contribute to completing transactions in record time.
