The American website Axios revealed Wednesday that three officials in the US State Department warned the administration team of President-elect Donald Trump of a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, when the new Zionist law banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) comes into effect at the end of this month.
The website quoted Juliette Touma, Director of Communications at UNRWA, as confirming that "the agency will not stop its operations at the end of this month when the Zionist ban law comes into effect."
Touma said "UNRWA plans to remain in the Gaza Strip and work for as long as possible until it loses the ability to do so."
She added "It will be 'catastrophic' if the agency is banned, with no alternative entity to compensate for its activity inside the Gaza Strip."
Earlier in the day, UNRWA confirmed in a post on X platform that “hospitals in Gaza have become death traps,” noting that “families in Gaza are disintegrating, children are dying from the cold, and hunger is claiming people’s lives,” calling for an immediate ceasefire.
