Sixth Scientific Conference on General & Laparoscopic Surgery in Ibb concluded
[Thu, 26 Sep 2024 20:53:16 +0300]

Ibb - Saba: The Sixth Scientific Conference on General and Laparoscopic Surgery, hosted by Ibb University and the Al-Thawra Teaching Hospital Authority in the governorate, in collaboration with the Yemeni Society of Surgeons and overseen by the Supreme Medical Council, concluded today in Ibb Governorate with the theme "Partnership for the Development of Surgical Work".

The three-day conference saw the participation of 600 doctors, including senior physicians, consultants, and specialists in surgery from various governorates, as well as doctors and consultants from Egypt and Syria. It featured discussions on 73 scientific research papers across 11 thematic areas, covering a range of fields such as general surgery, oncological surgery, pediatric surgery, vascular surgery, trauma surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, plastic surgery, hernia surgery, and surgeries of the liver, pancreas, endocrine system, and rectum.

The conference, which is the 50th conference of Ibb University and the 4th of the Faculty of Medicine at the university, came out with several recommendations, most notably emphasizing the importance of developing scientific thought in the field of general surgery and working to develop this specialty and achieving optimal communication between consultants and specialties, as well as the new generation of surgeons through various social media platforms, or periodic meetings and meetings.

The recommendations also stressed the pursuit of involving other specialties (MDT) in the right way in cases that require access to the correct treatment plan for the patient, and adherence to the existing "guidelines" available for each disease case.

The recommendations urged spreading awareness among medical staff, especially those working in the surgical field, of the seriousness of work injuries, including the methods and mechanism of transmission of viruses to staff, and how to avoid them, and work to open subspecialties in subsurgeries, and encourage surgeons to join them, and facilitate this.

It pointed to the need to first spread awareness among the surgical medical staff about the importance of subspecialties and to engage in them because of their importance in providing surgery, and activating medical consultations when the patient needs them, to make the appropriate decision for the patient, and encourage the work of new research that contributes to the academic development of surgery.

The recommendations stressed the establishment of training workshops in the skills needed by the surgeon, commitment to the "Check list", applied by the World Health Organization to avoid medical errors, and work on issuing a periodic journal of research papers, the first of which is the papers of this conference.

It pointed to the need to implement awareness programs for health workers on how to deal primarily with emergency cases, and ways to transfer them to avoid complications through training courses or awareness publications, activating job description committees in surgical work, and emphasizing the continuity of partnership between the Yemeni Society of Surgeons and Yemeni universities and medical colleges throughout the Republic.
